WebI took the basic mtDNA test from Nat. Geo many years ago and so have had over a decade of emails every time they find another HVR1 match to me. I must have thousands of those matches by now. I recently tested my uncle's mtDNA at FTDNA (full mt sequence) and he has absolutely no matches. I can't quite believe it, knowing how many I have. WebHVR1 is a 660-bp stretch of mitochondrial (mt) DNA. Among the 447 HVR1 sequences examined, we identified 58 haplotypes from 47 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and two insertion-deletion (InDel) polymorphisms. The haplotype diversity inferred from inter-breed analysis (N=154, 88 breeds) was 0.929±0.011.
